Van Lines Direct – Toronto based moving company

photo(5)If  you’re looking to crank your stressful moving experience up a  few thousand percent, contact these thieves. Our friend hired these shysters after sending his information into one of those sites that will throw your moving request out to a whole bunch of moving companies who basically contact the mover with promises they don’t keep. This is a cautionary tale about these companies. Our friend is kicking himself now!

RED FLAG!  They didn’t show up when they were supposed to. The definite “time” of arrival turned into a “window” the day before the pick up. The window was open pretty wide. He was actually starting to feel relieved that they hadn’t showed up so he could get a better company when they finally pulled up.

RED FLAG! The company has a Grasshopper 800 number, our friend later finds out. The requested time for drop off on the other end is ignored. They call from the road two weeks early to inform our friend that they need an address to deliver to which was already told to them on the original order. WTF?

RED FLAG! Here’s what you really need to know; this is when our friend finds out the company has doubled the moving cost estimate and is holding our friend’s contents hostage. This move has really turned into a sickening ride. As of the time of this post, he doesn’t know where his contents are and is pretty confident anything breakable is demolished or sold or….

RED FLAG! This is a bad company with a new name. So many new names! Our friend’s company contact says her name is Tuana Ozturk. She also goes by Tuana Turk. Tuana seems to be having problems with her company email right after he books with them. He keeps getting his emails bounced back. Then, the call with the “damage” due comes – the price has skyrocketed. Somehow they’ve ignored that he’s already given them his credit card information which is good. Fictitious new fees have been added to the bill. He told them he doesn’t have that kind of money. Now there are threats. Tuana likes to make threats – lots of threats. Our friend has contacted the police and the BBB – now he’s contacting a lawyer.

RED FLAG! When they’re trying to send new payment collection forms her email has changed from Tuana Ozturk (tuana@vanlinesdirect.com) to Tuana Ozturk (ulusoy.tugba@hotmail.com) because of “technical difficulties.” (We have to wonder if  this company is also behind some of the Nigerian barrister emails we all get spammed with!) Yes. Let’s all send personal credit information to this hotmail account. SKETCHY MUCH?

As of right now, our friend has no idea where his belongings are. He’s trying to go online to report these people but they’re so “new” that they don’t exist on any major site lists yet. They will shortly. We will help him warn people to avoid this crock of crooks like the plague!

Take our friend’s warning – do your research and avoid scam artists like Van Line(s) Direct. Spread the word about this bunch of scam artists. He took a picture of their truck when they showed up because he immediately knew hiring this company was the worst move he’s ever made – note that a completely different company name is on this old rust bucket.

Now lawyers are going to be involved. Was it worth it? No. Our friend’s advice? Don’t move. If you have to, talk to people, don’t trust companies on their contracted promises. His #1 advice?

Avoid Van Line(s) Direct with no head office when you ask for it, and tell anybody who is looking for a mover to run like hell from:

http://www.vanlinesdirect.com

Van Lines Direct: 1-888-387-7199

Van Lines Direct: 416-572-3922

Van Lines Direct Fax: 647-777-7776

Mobile Contact: 416-970-9614

Run. Like. Hell. from this company!

UPDATE:

Legal and Police help had to be called in. In the beginning of this abhorrent company’s fraudulent behaviour, police were contacted and declared this “a civil matter” until our friend found an officer who knew what he was talking about. In Canada, “Colour of Right determines ownership of property. This scenario from the get-go was “Theft by Conversion.” Van Line(s) Direct STOLE our friend’s property, ignored the legal authorities trying to mediate and eventually got their asses kicked by the police. Police tracked their information down to a VIRTUAL OFFICE.

WTF? A moving company that doesn’t have an office?

That’s because you, me or any yahoo can rent a trailer like the one above. They’re not a real moving company.

It seemed the storage facility  Van Line(s) Direct used to hide our friend’s belongings was looking forward to the fallout. Van Line(s) Direct refused to tell our friend where his contents were and deliberately let the storage payments lapse after the first month. When police contacted the storage facility they said they were going to auction off the contents. The police informed them that they were not entitled to auction off stolen goods so they’d better get on board. Right up to the very last minute police were involved in getting the storage company to turn the goods over to our friend and he’s eternally grateful to the officers who took the time to research statutes, make calls, check, check and double check our friend’s legal consumer rights.

Once the police had the storage company turn the units over to our friend, the storage company handed over a list of phone numbers that Tuana had given them as contact numbers for our friend. 444-5555 was one. Our friend’s cell number with one number wrong was another. There were four phone numbers, all deliberately wrong. The storage place said Tuana had instructed them to phone her if our friend showed up. Despite being given the ultimatum of releasing the goods to our friend directly to the storage company or being charged with multiple counts of theft and fraud, Tuana ignorantly believed she was above the Law.

Stolen property.

Extortion.

Fraud.

Make sure you remember those three words if you’re considering using Van Line(s) Direct.

If you’re going through this or any moving company, make sure the police know about

http://www.lawyers.ca/statutes/criminal_code_of_canada_theft.htm

http://yourlaws.ca/criminal-code-canada/322-theft

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/01/13/bc-moverextortion.html

Know your company, know your rights and know a good lawyer to sue for damages when crooks like these people (who apparently don’t know how to speak or write English) are trying to screw you over.

We know they’re one of many unscrupulous moving companies. It took over a dozen police officers and a dozen lawyers who didn’t know about consumer rights to find one who knew his stuff. Know your rights. Make sure the authorities you deal with know your rights, even if you have to show them where to look it up now that one smart cop stepped up to the plate.

Our friend was told by one officer, “You gave them your stuff.”

“Not so,” said our saviour cop, “It’s no different than asking someone to watch your house while you’re on vacation and coming home to an empty house. It’s theft.”

So, if you’re going through total bullshit with Van Line(s) Direct (the company name you make the cheque out to is different than the company name – we never know when to or not to use the “S”!), we hope you get some help here that you might not have been getting with the legal avenues who didn’t know or care.

Save your emails to and from them.

Save those texts.

Document all telephone conversations with them.

Take pictures of your goods and the truck and the people loading it; get the license plate numbers, check drivers’ licenses if you want – cover your bases.

Charge them.

Sue them.

For our Alberta readers, the police know about the Fair Trading Act – you can look it up on the Service Canada site. It’s a consumer protection act that prevents companies from charging over 10% of their original quote to you. One lawyer also advised, “If you pay them, be sure to write ‘Paid Under Protest’ so that a court will know it was your last resort.”

LOOKING FOR A RECOMMENDATION FOR MOVERS?

Our friend took a chance on Owner Operated and is thrilled to report honesty and integrity. They took pictures of damaged items. They wrapped things in blankets. They let our friend get other people to help unload and make the process quicker and easier. They were more than affordable. They do long and short hauls. They showed up on time. They covered the flooring with mats so as not to damage it. They spoke only English. They were polite. They didn’t take one break. They got the job done and done right. They even re-weighed our friend’s goods and lo ‘n behold – they did not weigh nearly as much as the scam artists at Van Line(s) Direct reported. Thousands of pounds less. Here’s what the Owner said:

“Companies will drive the truck nearly empty on gas and have all the guys jump out to weigh it. Then they’ll load the truck, fill the tank and have the guys jump back in for the weight they tell you you have. That’s one of the reasons I quit and started my own. I couldn’t stand what they were doing to people.”

Our friend is comparing the sticker-list the original company gave them with the things that were brought from storage and they’re missing a LOT. Exercise equipment is missing parts/damaged. Chairs to the dining set are irreparably broken. An antique fireplace mantel has gouges in the wood. Lamps busted. Paintings damaged. All this from the initial unpack – he’s so not looking forward to going through everything. Don’t forget how much he had to spend buying necessities while all of these tricks were going on – beds, dishes, clothes, towels, cutlery – thing of everything you pack expecting to have it handy when you arrive at your new home and then not being able to look after your family’s basic needs? EXPENSIVE!

This is just the beginning of an onslaught of complaints about this company. We like the class action lawsuit idea. If anybody out there is going through similar drop us a line in the comments.

  1. hello fellow victim of these crooks, we are having similar experiences,we moved from Ontario to Alberta
is it possible to launch a class action suit against this so called business

  2. I also had a terrible experience with is awful company. I am however going to contact the relevant authorities and I will be happy to join in the class action suit.

  3. I also had a horrible experience with this firm. I’m glad I found this page because I’m disputing the chargers on my Visa. If anyone is serious about a class action suit, please contact me directly at wenwon (at sign) mac.com

  4. Need help, the exact same thing happened to me. Don’t know who to call, or how to get my stuff back. Tuana’s email changed and they request payment before they deliver my goods or release the address where they are being held. Typhoon, the intial agent no longer works there, Denis just repeats what Tuana says, and Yasmin also repeated what Tuana said. My personal conclusion is that Tuana is the ring leader and is really screwing things up. My initial quote was for 800$ and now it’s gone up to 2000$. CAN U PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL with contact info. I am in for the law suit too. lilyarlette@hotmail.com What Police department can I contact that has already dealt with them because I keep repeating myself and no one believes how complicated this is. I called the BBB (not registered with them), the Canadian Association of movers (not registered either) and The Ministry of Consumers (they say they can’t help because there is no official contract that was provided). I called the cops and they too said that it is a civil matter. HELP!! Someone please answer or give me advice, I just want my stuff back.

    • @Lily, my e-mail is in the previous comment but I can tell you that as of last Friday, Tuana does not work for VanLines Direct any longer. According to the police officer I spoke to on site, she has been dismissed.

I would strongly urge you to file a dispute with your charge card carrier. I’m aware of at least 2 other disputes they are currently dealing with right now according to my sources. The more people that dispute the charges, the higher the likelihood that their bank will take action.

As well, go to your local police department and file a formal complaint.

Finally, I’ll be contacting some consumer advocacy newspaper editors in Toronto today. If enough of us make noise, there’s a possibility that they will cave in to the pressure.

In my particular circumstance, they lied about my weight, forged my signature on certain items of the contract and used an alternate moving company called Troy Moving. Apparently they do this quite a bit. If your driver’s name was Marek, you would have been moved by Troy Moving. Their reputation precedes them and it’s not a good one.

      Good luck.

  5. I am so happy I found this! The same exact thing is happening to me. I don’t know what to do, where to start! I have most of my stuff missing for over a month now and they have pretty much washed their hands clean from the situation. I have spent countless hours on the phone trying to get a hold of these crooks. I have spoken to a Jon, Yasmin (who is apparently the manager) and I have managed to get the phone number for the owner. His direct cell number is 647 774 9424 his whats app status is “work hard, play hard” what a bunch of clowns.

They actually dropped off other peoples boxes to my house, I would not be surprised if some of you have my stuff and vice versa, The initial drop off had most of my things and other peoples stuff. I called them to let them know and I started to count my boxes (the driver was nice enough to let me photo copy the list), They then dropped off more things a month later and picked up the other stuff that was not mine. I am still missing stuff like my computer, products, family pictures I am soooo stressed out I don’t know what to do anymore. If any of you have any advice for me please let me know.

My direct email address is annasaini@hotmail.com Lets stop these crooks from getting other peoples stuff. Also, I noticed they have a 5 star fake review on yelp, I say we all go on there and post the real ratings. thanks guys, god bless.

  6. I think they are now going by the name mega moving. I hope that helps.

    • Hi Suzanne, they are not Mega Moving. Mega Moving is a separate company. They are also a fraud http://www.canadausamoving.com . You call for a quote then they will send your stuff through a different company (in my case it was Van Lines Direct) and Van Lines Direct will hire another company and so on. Mega Moving is owned by a lady named Gina and apparently Van lines doesn’t know who she is.

      • I was told by two individuals that they are now Mega Moving. That information is correct. I have contact information for all the employees. If anyone is trying to contact them, I have their new number. I’m not going to place it here for legal reasons but I can find these people right down to their home addresses.

  7. Sorry. Correction. I’m now being told that Mega Moving is not related to Van Lines Direct. My apologies.

What I do know is that Van Lines Direct closed their office last Friday and have moved somewhere else. I have the phone numbers of all the staff members so for those that require this information, please let me know and I’ll provide it t you.

Contact me by e-mail please at the above mentioned e-mail.

  8. UPDATE: IF YOU NEED THESE CROOKS’ TELEPHONE NUMBERS, PLEASE CONTACT THE WRITER OF THIS COMMENT DIRECTLY. THEY’RE CRYING TO WORDPRESS BECAUSE THEY’VE BEEN EXPOSED.
I came across this site due to an investigation that I’m conducting on this firm. I’m a private investigator in Toronto. I’m listing the information some of you may need to pursue this matter.

As one of the previous individuals indicated, the company has now moved from their previous offices. We will be locating their new office shortly. When I have that information, I’ll place it here.

I have more detailed information on all the individuals listed below. Should you require information like addresses to serve court papers, please let me know and I’ll gladly send the information to you. My e-mail is pcrowtman (@) yahoo.com

    Names:

    Gulnalan Bal – Owner
    Tolga Bal – Owner –
    Miyase (Maya) Kiraz – Administrator
Anmet, Can (John) Kiraz – Administrator
    Yazmin – Administrator
    Tayfum Uzum – Administrator
    Tuana Ozturk – Office Manager
    Deniz Ebuzer – Estimator

I have all of their employment histories, driver license (numbers) information and addresses in my possession should you need to serve them with papers.

The main people that are responsible for most of your issues would be Ms. Gulnalan Bal and Mr. Tolga Bal.

From reading the comments and post above, most of your issues can be solved by filing a complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Services in Ontario as well as with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.

There’s much more information but I’m limited in what I can post here.

If you have the ability to do so, file a dispute with your credit card provider. I’m aware that the Gulnalan and Tolga both bank with CIBC. Your bank will be able to contact their bank and file a dispute directly with their card services carrier. I hope this helps.

    • Hi pcrowtman. It sounds like you have some of the same information my investigator has gathered. Can you please contact me at wenwon (at sign) mac.com? I’d like to put you in touch with my lawyer and his investigator. They have more information that can help your client.

      Thanks for posting this.

    • They have just started again mnm moving and storage Ontario corporation number 2371185 http://www.mnmmoving.ca and the fool uses his home address

  13. Ms. Haseeb
This company is a cheat. we contracted them for our move from Alberta to Ontario on October 2013. After taking the deposit payment these people backed out from picking up on the set date. our airline tickets were already booked and they told us that our deposit will be returned. But it hasn’t been done so far. In fact we received a threating call that do what ever you can but your deposit will not be returned. We have to go through a lot of trouble arranging for an alternate moving company at the last moment and at a higher price. So we are planning to file a complaint at ministry of consumers. we would appreciate any other advice to deal with these cheaters.

    • Hello, has anyone received a computer and a box of skin care products? I have a long mirror that’s not mine. Does it belong to anyone here? You have no idea what this company has put me through. Maybe someone here has my stuff delivered to them by accident. Thanks all.

  14. I also had a pieces from a pool table missing. Has anyone received these in error? I’m sorry to hear Anna I’ve had the same nightmare and headaches.

  15. I am so grateful I came upon this website. I had a $200 dollar deposit they took from my credit card without permission. I cancelled the move with them and they refused to refund it saying it was not in my contract (a contract that I had not signed nor heard of). I reported the fraud to VISA and got my $200 dollars back as I had not signed nor consented to this charge. If it had not been for this website we may have been victims of theirs as well. God bless you all for putting this out there.

  16. They have had my stuff for over a month now I have a newborn when I left and for the last month she’s been sleeping in an inappropriate bed… Two of my pet rabbits died while they were in temporAry care cause they kept telling me it’ll just be a few more days so they didn’t have their proper cages…. My dogs are at one places last surviving rabbit is in another my baby and I are at another place while I’ve payed heat hydro and rent on a house I can’t live in while by boyfriend has been away for 6 weeks… I flew down with the dogs two weeks early for a wedding and have been struggling since. But the number and contact I have is different I have Maya at 1 (800) 679-7166

    • I really don’t understand how visa is letting transactions go through. If there is a class action against them I’m in too. It’s been 6 months and I still have things missing. I would hate to say this but I highly doubt that you will get your stuff back. Sorry

  17. Did a class action get started? I’d be all in

  18. My lawyer in Toronto will be contacting and if need be visiting Van Lines Direct in person next week regarding my missing items.

Enough is enough at this point, theft is a serious crime and will not be tolerated.

    Wish me luck

  19. Hey all. I’ve received a lot of queries from individuals here about VanLines Direct. I can’t get into the particulars of my current situation. I would strongly advise all of you to make separate complaints with the Ministry of Consumer Services.

Filing several complaints against the same company will raise a “red flag” with the ministry and will escalate the situation.

I’m told that the ministry is well aware of the company but if you really want to impact the operations of this company, make a formal complaint with the Ministry.

    Visit this page: http://www.sse.gov.on.ca/mcs/en/pages/complaint_steps_to_file.aspx

Start your individual processes and I wish you the best. I’ll be updating the thread when I have more news to tell you.

Be careful with this company. I’ve received several death threats from Mr. Deniz Ebuzer who currently works in their office.

  20. Hey all again. I just got off the phone with a senior investigator from the Ministry of Consumer Services.

I can not emphasize this point enough. If you have been wronged by VanLines Direct, FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT with the Ministry of Consumer Services. The gentlemen specifically told me that they can not act without our combined complaints.

I’ve filed a complaint. Have you? If you haven’t, don’t simply complain here. As helpful as this forum may be, we can not stop this company by simply typing in comments on this web page. Take the time and file a formal written complaint because not only are you helping yourself, you’re helping others that have been ripped off by this company.

FILE A COMPLAINT with the Ministry of Consumer Services and if you don’t know how to do it, phone 416-326-8800

  21. Same thing is happening to me, however I am NOT waiting for them to come to me. I am acting fast. Police, lawyer, consumer protection Quebec has been called. I went to First Class Van Lines at the end of February. To date I have still not received my belongings, even though I have followed all instruction from their employees. My belongings are already more than 1 week late, little communication has been made and stories have been changed more than once. Where are my things? I do not know. I cannot receive a clear answer, nor can I get in touch with their head office. UHOH! I will keep you up dated as to what happens next and if they are true to their word… DON’T TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!

    • Kaylee, I am having the same problem with our move booked with First Class Van Lines and on the weight receipt it clearly says Van Lines Direct!!

      • At least you got a weight receipt. I got nothing from these thieves. Just told me the weight was 5900lbs! For a 1 bedroom apartment?! I kept asking for prove and they would not provide it. I paid to get my stuff back but it would have been cheaper to buy all new stuff.I don’t understand how these moving companies can keep getting away with this! It’s robbery!

    • Did you finally get your things?

  22. hanadi
I also had a terrible experience with this awful company.this awful company took my stuff 2 months ago from montreal to bring it to fort mcmurray and finally after 2 months i recieved a call from them that i will receive my stuff but unfortunately the stupid driver who brought my stuff took the whole payment and after he put all my stuff in the street and he run away, and iam living in the third floor, and when i ask him why u did that he told me i have another costumer is waiting for me and he didn’t want to put my stuff in the elevator at least he is really awful like the company where he is working,,too bad,,,stupid driver that he was acting like an animal and terrible and awful company.

  23. I wish I found this a couple of months ago before I hired them to move me from Saskatoon to Toronto. My main computer is missing and the foot board to my bedroom suit plus damages. Plus I was promised twice a weigh scale report and did not get it and they charged me an arm and a leg. Twice what was quoted.

I will taking them to small claims court, not only the company, but the own and the John Carrera the salesman. There address now, and I have been there is 10 – 21 Progress Ave, Scarborough, ON M1P 4S8

I’m game for a class action suite. Thanks for the info

  24. I wish I would have found this before I had them move from Saskatoon to Toronto. Not only did they charge me twice what was quoted, but my main computer is missing and the foot board to my bed plus a few of my itmes were damaged. It has been a week and I have have sent John Carrera the ‘senior sales rep’ and stongly worded e-mail threading legal action and a police complaint. I hope this helps.

I was refered to them by Moving 360 .net. AS things progress I will try to update this. Wish me luck

    • I hate to break it to you Glenn, I also had my computer and other boxes missing. They have changed their location now. This has been on going since July of 2013 and I still have not received anything from them. I am truly sorry for what you are going through I know how frustrating it can be. They are not willing to work with me on finding my things and I also had other people’s stuff sent to me at the
Time of delivery (which I sent back to them). I am assuming that my stuff was delivered to someone else and they never sent it back. I had a lot of valuable things missing and I have just given up.

      Best of luck!

  25. The phone number the I have and is still working is 416-292-0009 and there address is 10 – 21 Progress Ave, Toronto, Ontario. It is Scarborough now. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

    • I would love to join you. These guys are crooks and don’t deserve a penny from anyone. I don’t know how they can do this to people and get a way with it. Please let me know how I can support you. Thanks!

  26. QUESTION

How many people here have lost computers? Or what have people lost that is pawnable? This information will help with the police compaint.

My thinking is they (someone) are take one thing that they can sell (like my computer) and something else to make it look as if they are lost.

I’m finished my demand letter for small claims court and have to get the name registery and I should have if dropped off by the end of the week. I am not only claiming the lost / damaged items but 50% of the moving charge. Still more that what I think it was worth but I don’t want the appear gready to the judge.

    • I had a computer and some expensive products that were shipped to me brand new as well as all my expensive kitchen items. I am also missing 3 more boxes but I cannot recall what was in them.

    • When they moved me, I didn’t let them take my computers. I actually moved my computers due to their worth on my own. I’m glad I did it.

@Glenn Mason If you’re going to be serving them, contact me wenwon (@) mac.com directly because I might have some information you need. I’m not going to talk about it on this board just in case the VanLines Direct are reading this.

  27. Update just got a copy of the weight for the delivery, it clearly says “Van Line Direct”. they are supposedly the “contractor”. I do suspect this is just a way to get around Van Lines Direct bad name. any help here? we need to let everyone know that First Class Van Lines IS Van Lines Direct !!!!!!

  28. when we moved mid April with First Class Van Lines a man moved us by the name of Tolga and he signed our contract, it says above there is a Tolga that is the owner of Van Lines Direct. interesting…..

  29. Same people, same scammers. They were located in downtown somewhere then moved to Progress ave in Scarborough. I feel your pain! As of now, nothing has been done yet. I filed a complaint with consumers protection, my credit card company and nothing has been done.

  30. Hey FosterAdopt Mom when they deliver your stuff make sure that with the box comes through your door it gets checked off the list WHILE THEY ARE THERE. This is going to slow things down a bit but will be helpful if you have to take action against them.

  31. UPDATE

I delivered the demad letter and as expected there was nothing done. I called them today to see if anything turned up, of course nothing. This week I head to Small Claims Court. Also I will be talking to the police.

THIS IS WHAT I NEED PEOPLES HELP ON.

I’m going to Toronto Police Division 41 and I fulling expect the Officer to tell me this is a civial matter but I am not going to let him get away with that. I am going after Faud, Extortion and Theif, like the creator of this suggested. If there is enough people, they have to take this seriously. Also it is really nice to know that they are ‘changing’ there name. If anyone has a contact in the news media in Toronto, I’m game.

IF PEOPLE HERE WOULD LODGE A COMPLAINT WITH THE SAME OFFICER THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO GET SOME ACTION. Kinda a class action police compaint.

This would mean that you would have to write a compaint and deliver or e-mail to the same Officer.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS, please send me an e-mail at glenn(dot)public(at)yahooo(dot)com and when I have the contact information I will e-mail it to you. I am just making the introductions and I don’t want the complaint to come to me. That could cause some problems. Also if is OK with you I will pass on your information to the officer.

Working together we get these guys …… what ever name they are using today.

  32. Also when they refuse To allow you to view your stuff BEFORE signing. Print signed under diress where you sign. That shows a court that you were forced to sign agreeing to the condition of your items BEFORE inspecting the condition. It saved us!!

  33. Yes, I have much to say. Just got off the phone with our lawyer. I am going to propose we band together. Let’s go somewhere more private to discuss this. I am proposing a closed FB group. I can set it up. Who wants in? I will join under my real name. Who else wants to be an Admin?

  34. Good because they are reading this….we are not afraid of their threats. I think its time for another name change.

  35. I am wondering if we could all action them together they move me in august from ontario to alberta the worst move. I call them all the time for my claim. We all know it a joke. Let text each other and get even with them 403-463-6096 good luck everyone

  36. I’m in. The writing of the Police Complaint is going good. I am hopefully meeting the Faud Officer Friday / Monday. Thanks to everyone that has joined in. You can e-mail me at glenn(dot)public(at)yahoo(dot)com

  37. Check out First Class Van Lines review on Yelp. Same address and same games

  38. Admin, please delete my earlier post – the longest one where I mention the address and info for the company. i have been threatened by them. will share this information on private FB page.

  39. FosterAdoptMom

I would not worry about there threats. It’s all talk and they need a court order to have it removed. 1 you asked questions if the companies were connected and 2 what is mentioned here are our opinions / experiences with the company.

This is sounding good. We have them nervous.

  40. any chance there is someone in Toronto with a small truck? message me please. need help.

  41. I’m sending an email to coordinate, to everyone who has previously posted their email address. @Glenn, I am not worried, just wanted to collect the rest of our stuff. Oh and don’t forget to make your Consumer Protection complaints. Its pretty simple. Please do this first before anything else. we are doing ours, have you done yours? let’s stop talking and start doing….

  42. We are displeased to hear about the unfortunate results of service provided by Van Lines Direct, who are using the name of Van Line to exhort or postpone the delivery of household goods from their customers. After having led an investigation in the moving industry, we are now acquainted that they have been operating two years ago in the same industrial trucking area we are currently located at. This is a mere coincidence, we are not in any ways affiliated with this company, we are an independent company operating since 2002, who believe in the legitimacy of their business. Should you have any concerns about a relocation, please do not hesitate to contact us to experience the difference in service! We are also filing a complaint to BBB for misleading clients about our name, and thus affecting our reputation.

At First Class Van Lines, we’re passionate about moving. We deliver a positive, personal service experience from anywhere to everywhere… each and every time.

    • Kindly provide me your contact details and info on my delivery. If you are a legit company you will have the details of my move.

I await your response “Mr. Goldman”

  43. Going to make this point again. If you haven’t filed your complaint with consumer affairs, drop what you’re doing and do it now. As I’ve mentioned before, the caseworker I spoke to indicated that they will escalate multiple complaints if they are received.

I’ve spoken to at least 3 people in the last week who have not filed a complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Services. As helpful as this complaint board is, it’s powerless to stop these crooks. Take the time and report them to the Ministry of Consumer Services. It’s not a long process and ensures that the even is documented for the government to see.

  44. Update:

Wendell and everyone; I file the complaint with Ontario Consumer Affairs. It only took a couple of minutes on line. http://www.ontario.ca/consumers/filing-consumer-complaint

Finished the Police Complaint and stepped into Division 31 and she told me that this sounds like a civil matter until I told her that there are others with the same problem. So thanks for everyone that has tagged onto this. Never heard of a ‘class action fraud complaint’ before. She told me to call dispact. I should be getting a call from the Fraud Officer this week-end. It’s looking good so far.

A Fraud Complaint will help everyone with a civil matter.

The bad reviews on yelp with the same address for First Class VanLines have been removed. They have created a new page with a different address. We have got there attention. I am hoping they are keep up with this blog. They will learn how serious we are.

    I will keep everyone posted.

  45. Hi there, I featured Wendell Waldron’s story on my website. I’m sure many of you have a similar story. I’m hoping you can share this on Facebook etc. and get the word out about this company. This is a unique situation and the consumer has to be made aware of this.

I wish you all the best.

  46. I recently had an encounter with First Class Van lines. They might use Van lines Direct as well for a name on scale receipts. A move from hell! It took a lawyer to help intervene and I finally got my furniture. But more money was being demanded by this company. I did call iRelocate to let them know that they should not be allowing this company on their site as they are not honest with information given. After the initial estimate for the weight of my furniture that I had from them, the weight more than doubled. We refused to photocopy our credit card on both sides and sign the form. But Patrick charged the move to the mc, before we received the furniture, and without our authorization. We were lucky to have seen this before we gave them the certified cheque. They arrived nearly 4 hours after the time they said they would arrive and we received no phone call prior to delivery.
Do send a message to irelocate about them, send a message to all your friends, family or anyone else using any network possible to stay away from them. What a nightmare!!!

  47. Firstclass moved me recently to saskatoon. they are not only liars but also thieves. they did no bring my box spring and mattress and 2 weeks late from the original timing. do not trust them if they are same with the vanlines direct. i do not think Vanlines company know that they are stealing their names. The guy name Robert and his manager(a lady i forgot the name.) are very unprofessional and disorganized. run away from them ASAP!!!!

  48. Atrocious. Absolutely Atrocious service. I booked their services a month in advance and had all my articles packed and ready for loading. Tried a lot of times to get in touch with them, after they charged me a deposit of $200/- to lock in the moving charge of $0.50/lb. They said the only other charge would be a destination charge of $400 to which I agreed. I told them repeatedly that I have to hand over my apartment in Winnipeg on the 26th of June and that they have to pick it up my cargo by the 24th of June to which they agreed. On the 24th after repeated attempts they said I was scheduled for the 26th. After some ranting and raving some partner of their’s in Winnipeg came and picked up. The partner was quite good. Little did I realize that that was the start of all my woes with this company. I was lucky to have packed some of my family articles to take along with us. We were told repeatedly that it will be delivered in a week. I estimated that on the higher side my whole consignment would not be over 4000lbs but they came back with a figure of 8800 lbs and till now I haven’t been given the government weigh bill they said they would give me. I tried calling them every other day if not everyday and I was given such a run around by Robert who is a business procurer and Chris who supposedly is in charge of finance and scheduling. Neither of them knows where their bloody trucks are and it took them more than a month to deliver my goods to Grande Prairie. And them made it sound as if they were doing a big favour by delivering it when they did. Most of my articles were broken…and they charged me for some moving boxes and wear house charges and some other charges. I had no choice but pay as they refused to unload my cargo until the whole amount was paid.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO HIRE THIS COMPANY. IF YOU DO THEN ITS YOUR PERIL.

  49. My lawyer served these guys a couple of days ago. Keep you guys updated.

  50. They have just started again mnm moving and storage Ontario corporation number 2371185 http://www.mnmmoving.ca and the fool uses his home address

  51. I moved with mnm moving company(terrible experince) and scale ticket they gave me was from vanlines direct company. Maybe they are working as a partner..

  52. I tried to call them for 3 weeks. finally they came but they lose 1 box and they sent to me a form to claim but I can’t because their rule is $350 deductible. My box value about $250. they are stealing 1 box of each customer, then they can have auction after they got enough stuffs. That’s why they have rule $350 deductible. So no one can claim anything. watch out this company and the Senior Sale Specialist John Carrera. When you starting business with them, They are nice & answer your phone fast. When you call for delivery or claim, they are busy all the same. It’s hard to reach them. They are over charged me for my shipment. they cheated me, over weight my shipment about 200 lbs. they did not let us come to their warehouse when they weight my stuffs. STAY AWAY FROM VANLINES DIRECT IN SCARBOROUGH, ON.

  53. They are also called mnm moving and storage I have been waiting for my things almost a month now they claim they don’t know where my things are 14167797094

  54. Avoid mnm moving and storage as well as first class van lines. They will give you the run around. 99% of what the writer of this article posted is true. Refuse to tell you were your stuff is no normal moving company would do this. Rude, mean and cruel. They know the police won’t do anything unless those thieves directly tell you they need more money in order to give you back your things, THATS WHY THEY HAVE BBEEN GETTING AWAY WITH SO MUCH FOR SO LONG. MAKE SURE IF YOU GET YOUR STUFF BACK TO GO THROUGH ALL YOUR THINGS. IF THEY REFUSE CALL THE POLICE AND LET THE M KNOW IF YOU ARE AFRAID AND THAT YOU NEED THEIR ASSISTANCE. They refuse to give you their full names hire a private investigator or lawyer if things escalate.. I HAVE BEEN CRYING AND HAVING HEADACHES. NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS AWFUL

  55. I had a similar shady experience with a thornhill moving company who are probably affiliated with van lines direct.

moving nightmare, stay away from mnm moving and storage !!!!!
i moved my apartment from vancouver bc to montreal . Included in the move was a 6 week free storage . The company subcontracts its moves through other companies. About 4 weeks after the move i tried to contacting mnm by email, fax and telephone numerous times over a 2 week period mnm did not reply. i thought for sure my stuff was gone for good. I was able to track down the company that actually did the move through my credit card receipt. They were helpful and apologized and set up the rest of my move without delay. In future i will only deal with reputable and well known companies. the stress wasn’t worth cost savings

the ip address in the headers of the email messages I received was registered as VANLINESDIRECT the ip is 50.100.233.119 i called them but my contact john menotti was not an employee.

  56. I hired first class vanlines and from the sounds of it, it is the same company who robbed you that robbed me of my possessions. I moved from Winnipeg to Montreal almost 3 weeks ago. I didn’t have a place yet, so I said they could put my stuff in storage because their offer included up to 6 weeks of free storage at their Toronto facility. It sounded great to me at the time because I needed to still find a place to live here in Montreal.
Low and behold I just found out today their story was all a lie. I tried contacting Sara D’Angelo my sales consultant and all I got were a bunch of lies about how the truck broke down, they would get their scheduling dept to contact me about when they would be here but I never got a callback from anyone.
I have no friends or family to help us out in Montreal and we are basically sleeping on cold bare floors! Please help me with further steps of action to take.

    • Okay so here’s my story. A month ago they delivered me furniture. My mattress was completely ruined like soaking wet smelling like mold and it still has water stains on it now. The movers dropped my 2500 dollar dresser from Ashley Furniture down the concrete stairs leading to my basement apartment. My bed frame was missing pieces and both of my leather couches were stained and scratched. All in all to replace all of the damaged items would cost me about 7 grand! As the movers were leaving they said if you notice any damages just call home office, so I did. When I finally got through to the “Claims department” they informed me that I didn’t purchase the advanced insurance. No one had told me about advanced insurance they just told me about one insurance. So moving past that on the contract it says that they will only pay 60 cents on the pound for every damaged item. In my case only 2 items out of the 8 were not damaged. They’ve told me that I will be seeing the money they owe me for months now. I almost forgot, the lady on the phone told me that in order to get the fully compensated for all of my damaged furniture I would have needed to pay the $150 for the advanced insurance. Now when my second contract (I forgot to mention that their were two different contracts with two different amounts being stated) came there was a $150 exact added on. So I tried to profess to the lady that I had bought the advanced insurance based on the extra $150 I was forced to pay. She casually agreed and said you should be getting your money from the claims office it just takes a little while for them to process the claim. Now every time I call a man is answering the phone and they proclaim to have no idea what this lady is talking about. I live in Toronto and my furniture came from Winnipeg just like yourself. I feel like we both deserve to be compensated for our loss. I am also on my own my mom moved to China two months ago and she cant help much from over their.

  57. First Class Vanlines and VanLines Direct are the SAME company according to my sources when i was researching my blog post.

I would suggest the op start another thread with it being titled as “First Class Vanlines – Avoid This Moving Company.” By doing this, more people will see the result in Google and will hopefully stay away from them.

I’ve heard from a number of individuals that this page has had a very serious effect on their bottom line. The company is none to pleased that this board exists.

  60. SORRY FOR BEING MIA FOR A WHILE

Things have been a little crazy for me personally but I have been keeping up with the posts. I do believe these postings are helping people avoid them after reading this.

Chantel thank you so much for posting the Global News report. This is what I needed have the police accept my compaint.

These posting are now being review by the police but they have asked that at this time they don’t want to be distracted with a complaint from everyone.

I will keep post any progress. I have not forgot about this.

If you have not already done so, make a on line complaint with Ontario Consumer Affairs. This will give any action teeth.

  61. I empathize with all those whom have been duped by this company since I too have fallen victim to their poor business practices. To begin with, on moving day they were scheduled to arrive AT 9AM but throughout the day only supplied me with the most outlandish excuses you can think of (and some you’d never have thought possible) until they finally arrived at 4:30PM and then took 5 HOURS to load my small shipment. I thought this was the worst that would happen but then they made one excuse after another for 3 MONTHS as to why I hadn’t received my belongings. Finally, I just got fed up and then spent a month fighting with then to get back my belongings so I could store them myself and find a true moving company that would complete the contract. After 4 MONTHS of daily back and forth, I finally was able to get my belongings released after paying them $900 CASH for delivery that never made it out of Scarborough to BC, and a second company shipped my belongings 3 DAYS later. I am currently awaiting it’s arrival and pray this new company continues to deal straight with me so they can receive the second half payment for their work. I never in my wildest dreams imagined moving from ON to BC would be this long drawn frustrating experience.
One word of advice I have for those people planning to hire movers to transport their belongings across country for them, PLEASE DRIVE THE VAN OUT YOURSELVES. IT WILL TAKE LONGER THAN A QUICK MOVE SHOULD BUT IT WILL COST FAR LESS MONEY AND FRUSTRATION TO YOU IN THE END!!!! I didn’t do this because shipping my belongings appeared to be much cheaper so I naively boarded a plane believing my shipment would arrive at it’s destination a few days after I arrived and my sons would help me set up my new home. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I TRUST ANYONE ELSE TO DELIVER MY BELONGINGS WHETHER MOVING ACROSS TOWN OR ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!

  62. Hi All

Just to follow up. The police are still investigating and are in contact with some people from this list. There is no word yet.

There is new Global News Story – Oct 1 http://globalnews.ca/news/1593945/single-mother-moves-to-montreal-forced-to-wait-a-month-for-her-furniture/

I have put in a enquiry with the City of Toronto if they have business licence. I hope to hear back soon.

For thoughs that have not heard, there new name is MnM Moving and Storage

I am thinking that it is time to start a new blog that included, VanLines Direct, First Class Storage and MnM Moving and Storage when you do a Google search.

Anyone got word back from Comsumer / Corporate Affairs in Ontario?

    Thanks
    Glenn

  63. We had the similar expereince in 2013. The shipment arrived one month later than supposed to be. We also was charged more than what they told at the beginning. Missing some items in the shipment. The phone number has been transferred to another company. Feel like this company has disappeared from the earth.

    Very bad experience.

  64. My possessions were not actually shipped until two weeks later I was told they would be shipped. Thereupon, mnm moving arrived four weeks later than contracted and I do not know where the possessions were kept or stored during that extra week. And when the delivery was finally happened, there were three missing items: 1) A Dyson vacuum cleaner packed in its original manufacturer’s box; 2) a Sony HDTV packed in its original manufacturer’s box; and 3) my briefcase. Each of the undelivered/lost/stolen items was easily identifiable by sight as valuable.

Although I had purchased full replacement insurance coverage from them, all I got was delay, resistance and argument from its claim department. It claimed since the undelivered items had been packed by owner, they were not required to pay full replacement value. They failed, or chose not to recognize the difference between damaged items packed by owner versus items that were never delivered (and were most likely stolen while in their possession).

I ain’t give up and I am going after this bullshit company. I will be checking and investigating their online providers and try to figure out whether they are operating under different name(s) or not. I will write here again if I spot anything.

  65. UPDATE

I just received a phone call from VanLines Direct representative. She mentioned that after talking with their lawyers and the Police Detective they are looking to settle my claim.

She claimed that since it was a ‘busy time’ for them in the Spring when I was moved, they are not able to located the weigh scale report for my move, so they are willing to compensate me for the over charge from the estimate.

As for the damage / missing items is another story. According to the there representative they looked all over their warehouse and tracked the shipment and were not able to locate the missing items. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. SHE KEPT SAYING THAT THE MISSING COMPUTER WAS IN A BOX – IT WASN’T. I have told them that many times it was wrapped in a blanket. Also originally they said the computer was not insured because they could not verify what was in the box. They wrapped the computer and on the inventory list it was market as computer. At no time did she ask me what the computer looked like. I finally had to tell her what the computer looked like so they are ‘look again’. The missing Foot Board to my bedroom suite she doesn’t know what to look for with that.

I know from a visit to the office when this all started, there is an office / room off the main area were a lot of lost / missing items are stored. John Carrera the Senior Salesman took me to it when we did a quick look for my missing items. He was very guarded about the room and I was not able to see fully what was in the room but from a quick look it was full of stuff. He pulled out a printer box asking me if this was the missing computer.

They are suppose to be sending me the claim forms today and they will process them immediately with their ‘claim department’ based on there agreement on the Moving Contact. But she could say what that was. This is going to be interesting on what they come back to me with.

I informed her that I have an Agreement for Settlement written up and there is very little negotiation from that. The computer is itemized fully as is the rest of the damages.

Anything less than this Agreement, I will have no alternative but to take them to court, plus I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve that they will not like.

Fortunately, being in the same city as them and having the time I am going to keep up the pressure until I get a full settlement.

If you are one of the unfortunate people that have delt with

    VanLines Direct,
    First Class Movers,
or under there newest name MnM Moving and Storage,

keep putting on the pressure. If you are not in Toronto area, get a lawyer.

    Good Luck to everyone.

    Glenn

  66. Hi Michael Dawes

I have a lawyer in mind but want to talk with him before I give his information out. I will talk with him this week, If we use the same lawyer it will be less expensive since he will know the history and have the contact information.

YOU ARE WELCOME TO E-MAIL ME DIRECTLY AT glenn.public@yahoo.com

    Glenn

P.S. I may have and update later in the week that I will post.

    • Hi Glenn,
I have gathered some information regarding to their proxy settings and IP addresses. They are currently using Bell Fiber internet and obviously, with the same IP address they are searching different web-sites including with the moving industry ones. I suspect that one of the new company they might be using is GNB MOVING (http://www.gnbmoving.com/ ) as I had a chance to test them yesterday and the same voice answered the phone from my previous move and saying “Hi, MnM Moving” by mistake

-“the ip address in the headers of the email messages I received was registered as VANLINESDIRECT the ip is 50.100.233.119 i called them but my contact john menotti was not an employee.”

I may have an update later in the week since my investigator is still working on it.

  67. Thanks for the update Lee. I’ll look into this one and pass it on to my people. I will swing by the address they provided on there web site to see if their BMW’s are there but I suspect this is a post office outlet. Being that it is not to far from the the owners homes on Romfield Cir.

Doing a little check myself, gnbmoving.com was registered on June 15th of this year and only for 1 year. I guess they don’t think this one is going to stick around.

If anyone is looking for a job there is a Kiji Ad looking for Movers — John -1-647-680-6854

    • Toronto VanlinesUnfortunately, I have to agree with the two previous revives. The price I was given turned up to be almost 50% more.
We ordered the lunch for the movers (as per their preferences – vegetarian, etc. !) and of course let them eat; gave them a significant tip and …… at the end of the day, they still wanted to charge us extra for 1 hr lunch.
To add more, I was told that a balance of the payment (200$ deposit charged, but not confirmed on time) could be made in credit card, check, etc. at the end of the move/day. When we learned that the payment will be almost twice as big as we had been prepared for, we wanted to pay by credit card but …. the office was closed already, so they wanted the cash ONLY.
After almost an hour of phone calls, it was agreed that the remaining will be charged to our credit card next day and ……. they charged us 60$ more than agreed and signed for.
I am still trying to get my 60$ back.
Please read all the reviews before you decided to use this moving company !

  68. Progress Update:

With the help of the Detective Constable that I have been working with, we have come up with a settlement offer on the over charge of the moving expense since they are not able to produce the weigh scale report. They have until Nov 21 (next Friday) to have a settlement in my hands. Any bets if I am going to hear from them again …….. Also I have finally got the claim form for my missing / damaged items, I sent back to them. No word yet.

Last Monday the Consumer Services Officer finally got back to me after I left a message last week regarding my complaint from May 2014. I was able to give him a detailed complaint and mentioned the work that I have done in this matter. He will be looking into it ……. Anyone that has followed me here knows, that will not be good enough. I am expecting results.

Still working up the food chain …….

This afternoon I had a meeting with my MPP, who is a long term member, and has held different portfolios as a Minister. He was able to answer a few questions on how to deal with the government and government bureaucracy.

Also today a Senior Policy Advisor of the MPP that holds the portfolio of Ministry of Government and Consumer Services got back to me. She ‘sounded’ interested in this matter but only time will tell. She will be looking into the complaint I filed with the Consumer Services. So I’m starting to get Government support.

One impression that I have got from all this, is that time is on our side. The company ….. what ever name they are using, is creating a pattern that gives our complaints juice. IF YOU HAVE NOT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CONSUMER AND CORPERATE AFFAIRS IN ONTARIO …… DO IT. IF YOU HAVE, FOLLOW UP WITH A PHONE CALL. KEEP ON THEM. It is also important that you mention they started in the spring with VanLines Direct, by the summer they were First Class Movers and now they are MnM Moving and Storage and have unconfirmed reports there new name is Gnb Movers. Consumer and Corporate Affairs, do have some power but sometimes they need a push.

I have been lucky that I have verification that they can not produce a weigh scale report and they have demand letter for my small claims action. The Police Investigation is still open and the Detective Constable name is also being forward in all the complaints since she has done a lot of work on this. She has been great in this.

I will post more when I have it.

  69. Hello my husband hired GNB on the 28 of nov from montreal to Edmonton they told us it would be deliverded on the 2 dec ( a delais that make no sence considering its winter ) the 2 of dec no truck we called them up on the 4 of dec they told us it would be their tomorow We call them back on the 10 of dec they tell us no no we told you on the 12 ok no proble so monday the 15 call them back to says what the F*** takl to them for a good hour asking for a supervisor or head office they refussed and hug up on me now its the 17 still no news going crazy here

  70. One thing that I was told by the police when things started with me and they wanted more than twice for the moving cost is I should have call the police then.

Call the Edmonton Police and have them contact me and I will pass them on to the Faud Office that I have delt with. She can fill them in on them from her investigation. She has done the work. This will speed things up.

Also if you can send an e-mail directly to me about what has happened and I will forward it to my case officer at Consumer Affairs and the Ministers Office that I am working on.

Also don’t forget to make the compalint on line to the Ontario Consumer Affairs. This is important.

I thought we had a settlement with my over charge. The signed agreement was forward and I was suppose to receive a cheque by Dec 5th. Nothing yet …… but no suprise there.

  71. I have just had an awful experience with this company – under the name MnM Moving and Storage. The company I setup my move with was Vega Moving Lines in BC. They currently have some of my belongings in their truck, they threw and dropped some of my furniture, refused to move it up the stairs (left 2000 lbs of belongings on the front lawn), threatened to physically assualt my partner, yelled at me on the phone and demanded we pay an extra $100 to deliver the belongings up the stairs to our suite. My move was from Vancouver, BC to Winnipeg Manitoba. Does anyone have specific contacts I should be in touch with?

    Thanks so much.

  72. We have a horrible experience with this company. I can not express in words how frustrated we are using this movers. I wish we saw this warning before using them. There’s no Integrity at all in this company. They are a bunch of opportunistic crooks, that’s right! It took them 10 hours to move a 2 bedroom condo content. They were argumentative when ask why they’re taking so much breaks. They were upset because they can not go to their next job because of us. It is not our fault they were taking forever to move. We were so frustrated we have to help them just to get things done and over with. I hope nobody uses them again. Their service sucks!!!! Consider yourselves warned people!!!

  73. Is this also first class vanlines. I would like there contact info if it is available

  74. This sleazy Patrick Goldman, implicated in this same fraud, is now operating as Homeland Moving and Storage (homelandmovingstorage.com). They are using the name of a legitimate moving company from Langley, BC that has great reviews. The scam company is brand new and I think they change their name often, using a 1 844 number typically.

The owner of the real company told me that Patrick and his team of fraudsters also go by Landmark Vanlines (which has atrocious reviews, just like the company you guys have been scammed by). I’ve put down $100 and when I figured out that they were pretending to be a different company, I called to cancel and they refused to return my deposit. My credir card company is investigating. It is fraudulent misrepresentation, especially since in their emails they state that their company is BBB accredited, however it is thr REAL Homeland movers that are, not the scammers. Beware.
